School Bus Status
A Message to Parents and Students from the Renfrew County Joint Transportation Consortium (RCJTC)
Communication Procedures Cancellations/Delays During the School Year
If you suspect that your child's bus will be cancelled or delayed due to weather or other reasons, please do the following:
- Check the bus status page on the RCJTC website. Transportation information and school bus notifications, cancellations and delays are posted here beginning at 6:00 a.m. daily.
- Listen to area radio stations for information regarding transportation status. Media outlets obtain transportation notification updates from the RCJTC website. If your preferred radio station is not providing this information, please contact the station and request that they consult the RCJTC website.
- When transportation is cancelled in the morning, it is cancelled for the whole day. If you choose to bring your child to school, you are responsible for their return home after school.
- As parents/guardians, you have the first responsibility to decide whether or not is it safe and reasonable to send your child out to the bus stop or to school on days of extreme conditions. Check the internet, listen to the radio/TV and check the weather conditions outside. Make the safest choice for your child.
- You need to know your child's transportation provider and route number to properly identify the status of your child's bus/transportation service when you see it on the web or hear it from other media sources. This information is available from the school and/or from the RCJTC.
- Do not make unnecessary phone calls to radio/TV stations, RCJTC or the Renfrew County District School Board and tie up the phone lines during emergencies. All the information you need to know to make a safe decision is posted on the RCJTC website or broadcasted by your area media outlets.
- Provide the RCJTC and your child's school with updated emergency contact information including alternate emergency phone numbers.
The RCJTC is committed to the safety of students and requires your co-operation and support to ensure the well-being of your child during emergency and inclement weather days.
Note: Parents should have a contingency plan for their child in case of bus breakdowns or delays, especially during the winter months, and students should be dressed appropriately during the colder months. Visit our school's dress code for more information.
